Emergency Communications
The CRG has formed a formal sub-committee to investigate and implement an EMCOMMs plan for the CRG.
The CRG is looking into a number of ways to prepare some/all of the groups repeaters to permit their use in times of local/national emergencies and disasters by groups such as RAYNET or perhaps other emergency communications groups as needed. Some initial thoughts on this would be more extensive alternative power sources for the enabled repeaters (ie: larger battery backups, generator hookups, etc). Other changes would most likely involve providing additional functionality to the repeater controllers to allow instant modifications to the operating parameters of the repeater (adjustment/removal of time outs, insertion of recorded messages to announce the fact the repeater is under EMCOMMs control, etc). The sub-committee looks forward to working with neighbouring repeater groups as well as our own local RAYNET group plus RAYNET National and other local RAYNET groups. It’s important to work together to try and develop some sort of a standard that could be used around the country.
This is a working group and will be ongoing and is responsible to the CRG Chairman and CRG Committee. Currently, the group consists of the sub-committee lead, Rob McKenzie (M1XZG) along with Neil Whiteside (G4HUN), who has been co-opted to the sub-committee.
This page will be used to provide information about the progress of the groups plans, and other news we think is worthy of making note of.
