CUWS – Radio Loan Scheme

In an effort to try and encourage more young people in Cambridge to become more active (or join) in the hobby of Amateur Radio, the CRG has launched a pilot program known as the CUWS (Cambridge University Wireless Society) Radio Loan Scheme. The Scheme is aimed at full-time student members of the CUWS currently attending Cambridge University.

The CRG will provide approved members of the CUWS with a Yaesu FT-60R (or similar radio).  This is a compact dual-band HT equipped with a DTMF keypad, which we hope will enable the students to make use of either the group’s own 70cm part-time Echolink on GB3PY or the 2m unattended Echolink (running 24/7) on MB7IGC-L.  The scheme aims to encourage more use of CRG’s 2m and 70cm FM voice repeaters, and we look forward to CUWS members (and anyone else for that matter) joining us for a good old rag-chew or for one of the local nets (coming soon).

Running and developing a fleet of repeaters can be an expensive business. The Cambridgeshire Repeater Group is a voluntary organisation that relies solely on the support of its members. Ordinary membership starts at £10, or a whole family can join for £15.

We’d love you to join us and help us in our work to provide a state-of-the-art repeater network for Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area. If you would like to join please download the application form on this page. Send the completed form, along with the appropriate remittance to the address on the form. Thank you for your support – we look forward to hearing you through our repeaters!
